    By: Samantha Meyers RT (R)

It’s not too late! Don’t fall into the Flu this season, get the shot or nasal spray today at In & Out Urgent Care. The flu vaccine has the potential to make you and your family’s life a great deal easier during the next few months. With a quick needle stick or nasal spray, you can be protected against the dangerous virus that sweeps the nation every year.
It is estimated that between 450,000 and 900,000 Louisiana residents become infected with influenza each year by the Louisiana Office of Public Health. The flu has no discriminations and blindsides even some of the healthiest individuals during its peak of December through March. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends yearly flu vaccine for everyone six months of age and older. Keep in mind, it takes about two weeks after the vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and protect against flu. Washing your hands often will reduce the spread of organisms and keeping your distance from anyone with known sick symptoms is a sure way to help you stay flu free.
In & Out Urgent Care now offers FluMist, the nasal spray vaccine, which is an easy alternative for those who do not like needles. This vaccine contains live viruses, but are weakened and have lost most of the disease-causing properties. While it is acceptable for pregnant women to receive the flu shot, the nasal spray should not be administered to women who are pregnant or those who have a possibility of being pregnant.
You should not take the vaccination if you have allergic reactions to eggs, have had adverse reactions to vaccinations in the past, or if you are running a fever. If you have or have had Guillian – Barre syndrome, consult with your primary care physician about the flu vaccine. Whether you have insurance, or not, bring your family to In & Out Urgent Care today to protect yourselves from the flu!
